Building Trust and Data-Driven Leadership: The True Foundation of Modern Service Operations.

In an era when speed, metrics and cost-efficiency dominate the conversation, true leadership in customer service stands out by doing something different: building trust and using data not as an afterthought, but as the foundation of operations.

I’m Carlos Velásquez Rada, and over the last 15+ years working across LATAM in Customer Service, Supply Chain and Commercial roles, I’ve learned that transformation isn’t about flashy tech or a barrage of KPIs. It’s about two interlinked pillars:

Credibility in Leadership

It starts with people. When your team (and your internal customers) trust you, they’ll lean in share issues early and commit to change. Credibility isn’t given, it’s earned by aligning words and actions, delivering promises, and being transparent when things don’t go as planned.

    Data-Driven Leadership

Trust without insight is blind. To lead in modern service operations, you must harness real data—on performance, customer feedback, operational flows—and translate it into conversations, decisions and actions. Data gives you the language to build credibility, show progress and drive continuous improvement.

In LATAM, where complexity abounds—multiple countries, languages, channel types, varying maturity levels, the combination of credibility + data becomes even more critical. A few take-aways from my experience:

    • Focus on governance, not just dashboards: structure the workflows, responsibilities and cadence for decisions, rather than just showing numbers.
    • Make the customer voice visible in operations: whether it’s NPS, qualitative feedback or root-cause logs—let the team see it, discuss it and act on it.
    • Connect service metrics to strategic outcomes: OTIF, instock, resolution time—they must tie into business goals, not sit in isolation.
    • Embrace cultural shifts, not only system changes: digital tools matter, but so does the mindset of continuous improvement, shared accountability and cross-functional collaboration.

If you’re leading or preparing to lead service operations across LATAM, ask yourself: Are you building credibility? Are you using data to lead, or just to report? Because true transformation happens when both work together.

According to the Oliver Wight Group’s white paper Effective Execution of S&OP/IBP Plans Through Integrated Tactical Planning, “Integrated Business Planning … sits at the heart of our Integrated Business Model … and is the means many organizations now choose to run their entire business: https://www.oliverwight-americas.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/WP_EffectiveExecutionITP.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com
